In short: the app collects no personal data, requires no account or login, shows no ads, and contains no tracking or analytics. All processing happens on your device, and the videos you produce stay with you.

1. Who we are

Ayat Shorts is a non-profit charitable (waqf) project. The person responsible for this policy and point of contact:

2. Data we collect

We collect no personal data from you and send no data to any developer-owned server. There is no account, no name, no required email, no location, no advertising identifiers, and no analytics or tracking tools in the app. We do not know what you read, which reciter you choose, or how often you open the app.

This aligns with the Apple App Store privacy label "Data Not Collected" and the Google Play Data Safety section (no data collected or shared).

3. Data stored only on your device

The following information is kept locally on your device and never leaves it except by your choice:

• Settings & preferences (language, theme, design options) — saved locally to remember your choices.
• Quran & tafsir data — shipped inside the app itself as a local database and works offline. As of version 2.5 the tafsir is entirely on-device: the app contacts no server to fetch it.
• Produced videos — saved in the app's storage; you may save them to your device gallery or share them yourself.
• What reaches your watch — if you pair a Wear OS watch, the app sends it your settings only (city and its time offset, calculation method and madhhab, and your manual corrections) over the pairing channel the operating system provides, so the watch computes the times itself and stays correct with the phone switched off. None of it passes through a server of ours, and neither your location nor any personal identifier is sent.

You can erase this at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

4. Device permissions and why we ask

The app does not use the microphone (the record permission is explicitly blocked), and does not request camera, location, or contacts.

On iOS, media permissions are requested via the photo-library Info.plist descriptions: access to pick media, and add-to-photos to save the produced video. The app uses no App Tracking Transparency (ATT) tracking on iOS.

5. Third-party services (to fetch content)

To display texts, recitations, translations, tafsir, and backgrounds, the app contacts trusted public services to fetch that content only. As with any internet request, your device's IP address is visible to those servers — but we send them no personal information about you. These services are:

• quran.com (incl. api.quran.com, verses.quran.com, qul.tarteel.ai, static-cdn.tarteel.ai) — Quran text, word timings, translation, mushaf fonts, tajweed.
• alquran.cloud (api.alquran.cloud) — Uthmani text and recitation audio links.
• everyayah.com & cdn.islamic.network — recitation audio files.
• Pexels (api.pexels.com) — background image/video search. See Pexels' own privacy policy.
• cdn.jsdelivr.net & files.quran.app — mushaf page images.
• github.com (github.com/quran/quran.com-images) — mushaf reader page fonts.
• Google Play (play.google.com) & App Store (itunes.apple.com) — only to check for an app update.

Your interaction with those services is governed by each provider's own privacy policy.

5a. Detecting your city over the internet (entirely optional)

The prayer-times settings have a button labelled "Detect my location". Pressing that button is the only thing that makes the app contact ipapi.co. We list it separately from the services above because the difference matters: those services see your IP address incidentally, the way any server on the internet does, whereas ipapi.co's purpose is to infer your approximate location from your IP address — there the address is the point, not a side effect.

• This request happens only when you press the button yourself. Never at launch, never in the background, never automatically.
• We do not use GPS and do not ask the operating system for location permission.
• Nothing leaves your device except the request itself. The only result we keep is the name of the city you selected, stored on your device alone.
• If you never press the button, the app never contacts ipapi.co — and picking your city by hand from the list does exactly the same job.

Your interaction with ipapi.co is governed by its own privacy policy.

5b. Verifying prayer times online (on by default)

The app computes prayer times on your device, offline. It also has an option called "Verify times online" — on by default — which compares the computed times against the official aladhan.com table when you open the prayer screen, so any drift is caught. We list it separately because, unlike the services above, we deliberately send it geographic coordinates, and because it runs without you asking for it.

• What is sent is the latitude and longitude of the city you picked from the app's list — not your actual location. The app never reads GPS and never requests location permission, so the most precise thing it knows about you is the name of a city you chose yourself.
• The date, calculation method, and madhhab go with it — and nothing else. No device identifier, no account, nothing about you.
• The request happens when you open the prayer-times screen after choosing a city. Not at launch, not in the background.
• You can turn it off in the prayer-times settings; the calculation keeps working fully without it.

Your interaction with aladhan.com is governed by its own privacy policy.

6. Children

The app is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we knowingly collect no data from anyone, including children. We uphold the Child Safety / anti-CSAE standards described on our Child Safety Standards page.

7. Sharing and selling data

We do not sell or share your data — simply because we do not collect it. There are no ad networks or third-party trackers in the app.

8. Data security

Because your data and outputs remain on your device, their protection follows your device's own security. The developer keeps no copies.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when needed and will publish the updated version at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date above.
